orrZl72"~" .

..

Other Minerals

'Deposits of limestone, silica, gypsum, and clay, as well as sand

and gravel, occur in the area. These deposits are uneconomical either

because local deposits are too low grade, similar deposits occur closer

to markets, size of deposits does not warrant mining, or a combination

of such'factors.

CONCLUSIONS

Commercial coal occurs east and west of the Monument, but not

within the Monument or the Green River corridor study area.

.---~ .._------_._~-- -------------.----- ..~. --.

Uranium producers' interest in the Browns Park Formation has increased

markedly since both uranium and foreign oil prices escalated. Areas

containing Browns Park sediments, such as Browns Park itself, have

attracted renewed exploration studies.

Oil and Jias production is found around
A.7Inti4!
productio~within the corridor is virtually

the study area, but such

nonexistent in the river

segment upstream from Browns Park. A similar river segment is found

from the Gates of Lador downstream appro~imately 14 miles (22~ km).

.
Browns Park and most of the rest of the corridor have a small potential

owing to the presence of a relatively thin sedimentary section.

Oil shale in the Green River Formation is widespread, but deposits

near the Monument are of lower grade than in other areas. No deposits

are located in the corridor area.

Tuff occurs in a known deposit within the river corridor, but

development has not yet taken place.

.

19

i'
,

I

I
