.,

f)J~Jl()
,

South Platte Water Rights Management System

1.8 Point Flow Format Files

The SPRWMS application does not explicitly compute point flow infonnation. The data
stored in the SPWRMS database. however, can be extracted for this computation. Several
reaches have been defined and are selectable via the query point flow menu. Data for the
reach, for the time range specified, in the Preferences dialog is extracted from the database
and written to a specified file. This file is in a specific fonnat (described in the User's
Manual) and can be read by the point flow processing software developed by the Northern
Colorado Water Conservancy District. This document specifies the process of specifying
the reaches available for selection.

Selectable Reaches

Reaches are specified using a point flow configuration file. The configuration files exist on
the server machines in the pUayout directory located in the SPWRMS root directory. Each
file is named tall-NN.pf where NN is some meaningful number (currently corresponding to
the water district for the reach). The selections available from the Query Point Flow menu
are mapped (explicitly, in the software) to the reaches specified in this directory.

Point Flow Configuration File Format

Each point flow configuration file specifies a single reach and consists ofthe column speci-
fication line, followed by an arbitrary number of item lines (each specifying a structure,
flow gage or spotcheck). Line comments may be included by starting a line with a #. For
point flow computation. the first and last lines should be streamgauges.

The column
specification line

The column specification line specifies which columns from the water information sheet
should be extracted for the specified items. This line should contain a string of 19 Y s or Ns.
Only columns with Ys specified will be extracted from the database. The following table
relates the position in the string to the data extracted. There is currently no method of spec-
ifying the order in which the extracted data should appear in the Output file. The Output
file will have an indicator line (which describes the order of the data contained on the rows
in the remainder of the file) and which appears in the table. (the fonnat of the data written
to the file also appears). Columns 5-18 will not be output for spotchecks or streamgauges.

Column # Tag Description Dalatype
I SATELlTE float daily average of satellite data (streamgauges only)
2 NATFLOW float natural flow
3 RTDFLOW float delivery flow
4 TOTALFLOW float total flow
5 SUBSUPPLlES float replacement (substitute supplies) flow
6 COMMENT quoted string the comment

DatabaseTable I: Column indicator fonnat value

Administrator's Manual

11
