.OOO2S3

'\. ... J' ~ r i!

Training for the four CRDSS modules are approached in a p.ugressive manner as
follows:

. Overview demonstration of the full capabilities of the CRDSS. The
demonstration will provide a broad but quick review of the full capabilities of
the CRDSS as it might be applied for typical water management tasks. It is
designed for the water management executive but will be of interest to the
general user as well in gaining a introductory training level.

. Hands-on exercises provide practical experience in the use of the CRDSS
databases and models. We will review key portions of the documentation and
then conduct hands-on exercises using the CRDSS interfaces. The exercises
are designed to acquaint the user with typical operations performed with the
CRDSS and upon completion would gain the user a beginner to intermediate
training level.

. Application scenarios are the next training level. Here our attention turns
toward using the CRDSS for typical water management and problem solving
activities. We use the CRDSS modules to address a broad spectrum of data
retrieval and review, and model scenario applications. Completion of one or
more of the application scenarios would gain the user an intermediate training
level.

The training program is structured so that a user having limited time or interest
may select only certain modules. The choices are outlined below in the sections on
Schedule and' Signing Up.

CRDSS Training Modules and Prerequisites

O. Overview

The Overview module is a 2-hour computer based presentation of the use of the
CRDSS for a typical river basin management app;ication. It is intended for water
management executives and other potential users who want to gain a general
overview of the full capabilities of the CRDSS. There will be limited hands-on
opportunity for interested individuals at the end of the 2-hour demonstration.

S. Startup and General Utilities

The Startup and General Utilities training module is directed to providing the
foundation for using the other CRDSS modules and is therefore a prerequisite for
all other training. It involves a short review of Unix, CRDSS directories and files,
and training in the use of selected utility programs important for successful use of
the CRDSS
