This announcement presents background on the training objectives and
methods, lists the schedule in detail, and provides opportunity to sign-up for all or
selected training module sessions.

The CRDSS

The Colorado River Decision Support System (CRDSS) is a collection of
computerized databases and models designed to aid management of the water
resources of the tributaries of the Colorado River Basin in Colorado. The CRDSS
currently includes four major components:
. Tabular databases on historic river flows, diversions, climate and agriculture.
· Mapped databases on topography, soils, irrigated lands, watersheds, river
networks, diversion headgates, cities, counties, and DWR divisions and
districts.
· Consumptive use (Cm model for determining the amount of water used by
evapotranspiration from irrigated lands and other uses.
· Water resources planning model for simulating river basin water flows,
diversions and reservoir operations on a monthly time step.
The CRDSS also incorporates versions of the so-called Big River Models (Annual
Operating Plan and Colorado River Simulation System) of the US Bureau of
Reclamation. These models are used to simulate river flow~ and diversions of the
entire Colorado River basin. However, due to on-going enhancement of those
models by the USBR they will only be demonstrated; detailed training will not be
provided.

All of these databases and models have been integrated into a single package in a
networked Unix workstation environment having user-friendly interfaces.

CRDSS TRAINING PROGRAM OUTLINE

Training Objectives and Methods

The CRDSS Training Program is directed to providing the user with hands-on
experience in using the CRDSS. Moreover, a user who completes the various
modules of the CRDSS Training Program will have experienced success in the use
of the CRDSS and from this will gain confidence that the CRDSS can be used
productively on the job.
