Or" / "'~
Ul'tlO

-12-

II - EXPORTATIONS. STATUS

.,

12. Allowances are necessary for increased future exoortations from the
Colorado River system by the enterprises heretofore co~structed in Colora-
do. Repair work and reconstruction of facilities now inoperative, or large-
ly so, will have the effect of increasing the quantities historically and
currently diverted. In some instances the collection systems were planned
for future extensions. In other enterprises the construction of reservoirs,
on the west slope for replacement purposes, and on the east slope for regu-
lation and carryover storage, will permi t of increased e 'lportations. Diver-
sions from the Fraser River via the Hoffat tunne I, a nd from the Vlilliams
River via Jones Pass tunnel, are being increased by the oonstruction work be-
ing carried on by the City and County of Denver. which improvements contem-
plate ultimate exportations of a combined total approximating 130,000 acre-
feet annually. These and other probable or potential enlargements and ex-
tensions of constructed enterprises may be estimated ~o increase the current
diversions (averaging 135,700 acre-feet annually). by an aggregate of 132,300
acre-feet, to a total of 268,000 acre-feet annually.

.,

III - EXPORTATIONS I PROGRESS

13. Exportation projects under construction in Colorado by the U. S. Re-
c lamation Bureau include the Colorado-Bi g Thompson (Grand Lake) diversion,
with a contemplated yield of 310.000 acre-feet in an average year, primarily
to supplement the chronically deficient irrigation supplies of the South
Platte River and its tributaries in the llorthern Colorado Water Conservancy
District.

Note I The Adams Tunnel through the Continental Divide is 13.1 miles
long and was holed through in June 1944. Upon completion of the tunnel lin-
ing. diversions are expected to comnlence sometime in the season of 1945.
However. they will not attain normal amounts until completion of other ap-
purtenant works, including reservoirs, collection systems and pumping units
on the west slope, and including pipe lines, reservoirs. power plants and
delivery systems on the east slope.

.

14., Exportation projects authorized for construction in Colorado include
the Vleminuche Pass Tunnel unit of the San Luis Valley Project. This pro-
ject was authorized for construction by the U. S. Reclamation Bureau for
flood control, irrigation and power purposes along the Rio Grande and Conejos
Rivers, and some funds were appropriated for construction prior to the war.
The trans~ountain diversion unit contemplates the eAportation of 20.000
acre-feet annually from the Pine River, a tributary of the San Juan River,
on which is located the recently completed Vallecito reservoir and the pro-
posed Pine River ditch system.

.

15. Exportation projeots under study and design by the U. S. Reclamation
Bureau, and which are included in the.contemplated post-war construction
program in Colorado arel

(1) Gunnison-Arkansas project, for supplemental and additional irri-
gation and power purposes in the Arl:ansas River valley in Colo-
