UL~'~:S J ~-t.....,..;. y M.u"\~ l'(~ November 3. 1954 TRUJILLO MEADOWS RESERVOIR PROJECT It is respectfully requested that the Game and Fish Commission consider the Trujillo Meadows development project} to be carried out ~ith Federal Aid funds, at the November 8 Commission meeting. Pertinent information on this project 1s as follows: 1. Introduction Hr. Welch, of this department} called the Trujillo Meadovs site tc the department's attention during the SUffimer of 1954. Preliminary investigations indicated the site to be feasible, and subsequently the site was surveyed by Mr. Runyan. The eilgineerlng loi'orma.tion hereafter presented was obtai.ned from Mr. Runyan's survey. 2. Purpose of Trujillc t~~dovs Reservoir Project (a) Provide additional good trout fishing water in the San Luis Valley area. (b) Provide limited erosion control. (c) Add to the aesthetic value of the area. 3. EcoDoffiic Value of the Project It is reasonable to expect that the impolmdment viII produce about )0 pounds of trout to the creel per surface acre annually. Giving the trout a value of $1.00 per pound, the project will annually produce $2,091 \{orth of trout. Lccati<..n of Pro,ject The project is located in the Rio Grande National Forest about 25 ~iles ....est of Antor.ita, Colorado, in the vicinity of Cumbres Pass. 5. Accessibility The reservoir site is approximately l~ ~iles above Highway 17 on Los Pinos Creek. Access frorn the high....ay at the present time is by means of a logging road to ....ithin 1/10 mile of the dam site. Although the logging road is passable by passenger car, it is a poor road, and i~ the future it might be advisable for the depart- ment to improve the access to the reservoir.
