Pertinent <br />information on this project 1s as follows: <br /> <br />1. Introduction <br /> <br />Hr. Welch, of this department} called the Trujillo Meadovs <br />site tc the department's attention during the SUffimer of 1954. <br />Preliminary investigations indicated the site to be feasible, and <br />subsequently the site was surveyed by Mr. Runyan. The eilgineerlng <br />loi'orma.tion hereafter presented was obtai.ned from Mr. Runyan's <br />survey. <br /> <br />2. Purpose of Trujillc t~~dovs Reservoir Project <br /> <br />(a) Provide additional good trout fishing water in the San <br />Luis Valley area. <br /> <br />(b) Provide limited erosion control. <br /> <br />(c) Add to the aesthetic value of the area. <br /> <br />3. EcoDoffiic Value of the Project <br /> <br />It is reasonable to expect that the impolmdment viII produce <br />about )0 pounds of trout to the creel per surface acre annually. <br />Giving the trout a value of $1.00 per pound, the project will <br />annually produce $2,091 \{orth of trout. The srrall stl'eam ....hich <br />flo....s ~hrough the impoundwent area has only a small fish productive <br />capacity. <br /> <br />1;. Lccati<..n of Pro,ject <br /> <br />The project is located in the Rio Grande National Forest <br />about 25 ~iles ....est of Antor.ita, Colorado, in the vicinity of <br />Cumbres Pass. <br /> <br />5. Accessibility <br /> <br />The reservoir site is approximately l~ ~iles above Highway 17 <br />on Los Pinos Creek. Access frorn the high....ay at the present time is <br />by means of a logging road to ....ithin 1/10 mile of the dam site. <br />Although the logging road is passable by passenger car, it is a <br />poor road, and i~ the future it might be advisable for the depart- <br />ment to improve the access to the reservoir. <br />
