.

.

3) ,Create the Landslide Hazards Map as GIS map layers (70%)

Using the 1041 map layers and the slope classification map as a starting point, the CGS will
assess the polygon information (i.e" the boundaries that delineate various geologic-hazard
areas ), We will compare the polygon boundaries with information from other maps and
reports, the slope and bedrock data, and recent experience in the area, to create new GIS map
layers that focus specifically on landslide hazards, Where possible, the polygon boundaries
will be checked using available stereo air-photos and by field-checking certain locations,

The finished GIS product will show a relatively straightforward interpretation scheme that
relates to known landslide hazards and potential landslide-susceptible terrain, including
potentially unstable slopes, The map polygons will be created using the FIMS base map at an
optimum-use scale of 1 inch = 800 feet. A metadata me that includes the map explanation
will be created as part of this task.

4) Prepare an Executive Summary report (20%)

The CGS will prepare an Executive Summary report that will explain our methodology,
pertinent [mdings, map units, suggested uses, and conclusions.

Deliverables

The CGS will produce GIS map layers, using ESRI software, that show landslide hazards and potential
landslide-susceptible terrain, along with a map explanation that will be included in a metadata file, In
addition, the CGS will produce a separate Executive Summary report that will explain all of our pertinent
fmdings. All of these items will be delivered on CDIROM discs to the City of Colorado Springs, The
initial project deliverable distribution list will include the Engineering, Planning and Zoning, and
Emergency Management Offices of the City of Colorado Springs, Copies of the map layers and report on
CDIROM will also be delivered to FEMA and CWCB.

Post-Proiect Publishing

The CGS will publish the map and report for public sale and distribution, This hard-copy map will be
created at a scale of 1 inch = 2,000 feet and overlain on USGS DLG base maps at the standard 1 :24,000
quadrangle scale; FIMS base maps or other proprietary coverages will not be used, The creation and
distribution of the hard-copy map is beyond the scope of this project.

Disclaimers

The selected mapping scale will be chosen to meet or improve the mapping accuracy from that of the
existing 1041 Maps (1 inch = 2,000 feet), This scale was selected to optimize the usability of the map for
its intended purpose of providing general categories of landslide hazard information to the city, The map
will not be accurate at scales that are smaller (i.e" more detailed) than the mapping scale, The map is not
intended for site-specific design purposes or for assessing specific levels of landslide hazard risk at a
particular location,

This project will be conducted without the benefit of detailed and costly site investigations, Therefore,
many questions will remain unanswered about the overall stability and future affects of the landslides and
landslide-susceptible terrain, Modeling the slope stability and assessing the future mitigation of the
landslides is clearly beyond the project scope, These disclaimers will also be stated on the fmal published
I :24,OOO-scale maps and in the metadata files,

3
