,

.

.

,

Task 7:

Hatchery Design

Objective:

For each of the three potential sites under consideration, develop a feasibility
level design for Scenario 2 and conceptual-level designs for Scenarios I and 3,
This will include site layouts for Scenario 2 at each of the three sites,
appropriate cross-sections, and lists of major equipment. The feasibility-level
designs will be developed in sufficient detail to enable quantities and costs to
be estimated.

Responsibility:

URS and FishPro will take the lead, with all Subconsultants contributing.

Methodology:

i. From the design criteria previously developed, a typical site layout will be
prepared. This will depict areas devoted to major facilities and their inter.
relationships. From thi5, the major facilities will be defined. These will include:

a. Administration, research, and laboratory facilities, and caretaker
housing,

b. Spawning, hatching, and rearing facilities.

c. Broodstock, refugia, and stocking (as necessary) holding areas.

d. Maintenance and storage areas.

e. Water diversion and conveyance facilities and water and effluent
treatment facilities.

f. Water heating facilities.

g. Site access.

h. Utilities,

2, A flow diagram will be developed to depict overall water requirements and the
inter-relationship of facilities.

3. General building layouts will be developed to depict special arrangements, space
allocations and major equipment and facilities. .

4, The layout of facilities in the yard areas will be refined to fit each site being-
evaluated. Each facility, such as a solar pond, raceways, rearing ponds. and
holding ponds will be dimensioned and the manner of construction considered.
This may include concrete tanks, earthen dikes with liners, and effluent settling
ponds. Consideration will be given to foundation requirements and the
suitability of on-site materials for fill.

5. Once the major facilities arc sited, access requirements will be determined.

6. Major piping will be sized and located.

7, Visitor center facilities will be defined, in coordination with the CWCB.

14
