<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Location <br />Julesburg Irrigation District is located In northeastern Colorado, generally bounded by the <br />Julesburg Reservoir on the west, the South Platte River on the south, the Colorado-Nebraska state <br />line on the north, and the town of Julesburg on the east. The major faclllly of the District is <br />Julesburg Reservoir which straddles the Logan and Sedgwick county line about 20 miles west of <br />Julesburg and 35 miles northeast of Sterting, Colorado, The reservoir Is owned and operated by <br />the District and provides a supplemental irrigation supply to about 19,000 acres within the District. <br />The service area ranges in elevation from 3450 to 3700 feet. The maximum operating water level <br />in the reservoir is 3712, The general location of the District service area and facilities are shown on <br />Figures 1 and 2, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />District Facilities <br />Julesburg Irrigation District owns and operates several major irrigation facilities, Julesburg <br />Reservoir is retained by four major dam embankments designated Nos, 1 through 4, and a smaller <br />embankment No, 1 A. The maximum earth-fill height is about 65 feet, and the cumulative dam crest <br />lengths are about 8,600 feet. The reservoir capacity is about 28,750 acre-feet at the spillway crest <br />(gage height 28.0) and is about 24,900 acre-feet at the normal maximum operating level (gage <br />height 25.5), The elevation-surface area-capacity relationship is shown on Figure 3, The general <br />location of the reservoir and dams is shown on Figure 1. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The reservoir outlet works structure is located near the north end of Dam No, 4 (the <br />easternmost dam), The outlet works consists of three horseshoe shaped concrete conduits, 48 <br />Inches wide by 52 Inches high, and 150 feet long, Reservoir sluice gates, located about 90 feet from <br />the inlet structure, are used to control the discharge through each outlet conduit. Maximum <br />discharge capacity through the outlet is about 930 cfs, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Julesburg Irrigation District derives lis irrigation water supplies from the South Platte <br />River, River water is delivered to the reservoir and District lands through the Harmony Ditch No.1, <br />The diversion structure for the dllch is located about four miles west of Crook. The District also <br />utilizes the Peterson and Settler ditches for direct irrigation, in recent years, very little water has <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />. <br />
