<br />Feas~b~1~ty of the Rehab~1~tat~on <br />of the <br />Low1~ne D~tch Company D~vers~on Structure <br /> <br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The Lowline Ditch Company (LDC) is a Colorado mutual ditch <br />company and a non-profit corporation. <br /> <br />LDC was formed in late 1800's to construct and operate the <br />Lowline Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The LDC <br />currently has 14 shareholders with 320 shares of stock. The <br />Company can divert 39.9 cubic feet of water per second of time <br />from the South Platte River, at a headgate located just East of <br />Sterling, Colorado. From this headgate, the LDC has had an <br />average annual diversion of 6,650 acre feet or approximately 21 <br />acre feet per share. <br /> <br />The ground under the LDC is also irrigated with 13 tributary <br />groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 1,200 acre-feet of <br />water annually. These 13 wells are currently augmented under the <br />Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte (GASP) plan of <br />operation. <br /> <br />Project Serv~ce Area <br /> <br />The service area is located in Logan County, from just East of <br />Sterling to about 5 miles Northeast of Sterling. The service area <br />is located on the North side of the South Platte River in Logan <br />County. The LDC service area irrigates on the average 2,070 <br />acres. The water is typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa, <br />beans, and sugar beets.
