<br />- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />$477,900 which remains from a $1,000,000 appropriation made in 1988 again bc carried forward <br />to acquire water for the endangered fish; and we anticipate expenditures for water acquisition <br />activities in fY 96 <br /> <br />Dolores Proiect <br /> <br />The Administration's budget recommends $3.470 million for continued construction of <br />Section 5 features of this project. All Section 8 features have been completed. Colorado supports <br />the budget recommendation. <br /> <br />The recommended Section 5 funding for the Dolores Project, located in southwest Colorado, <br />will allow construction to be completed on McPhee Dam and Power Plant ($40,000), Dove Creek <br />Distribution System ($200,000), South Canal Distribution System ($26,000), Cortez-Towaoc <br />Distribution System ($1,438,000), Towaoc Area Drains ($185,000), and other project facilities <br />($700,000). <br /> <br />Eastern Colorado Proiects <br /> <br />The Administration's budget recommends $11.594 million for operation and maintenance <br />of these projects and an additional $700,000 for continued construction of the first corrective <br />action demonstration project and initiation of fish and wildlife restoration activities, Colorado <br />strongly supports this budget request as these projects are absolutely vital to Colorado's economic <br />well being, These projects include the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, the Fryingpan-Arkansas <br />Project and the Arkansas River Water Quality Improvement Program. Combined the Colorado-Big <br />Thompson and Fryingpan-Arkansas projects divert approximately 300,000 acre feet annually from <br />the western slope of Colorado to farms and communities along Colorado's front range. <br /> <br />The Arkansas River Water Quality Improvement Program reduces water quality problems, <br />which are the result of mining during the late 1800's, that have adversely impacted fisheries, <br />wildlife and water supplies, This program' improves water quality in the Arkansas River between <br />Leadville and Pueblo Reservoir. The water quality program is a cooperative effort with the <br />Environmental Protection Agency, several state agencies and the Southeastern Colorado Water <br />Conservancy District. <br /> <br />San Luis Valley Proiect - Closed Basin Division <br /> <br />The President's budget recommends $3.195 million to operate and maintain the Closed <br />Basin Project and related mitigation. Colorado supports this budget request. <br /> <br />The Closed Basin Project has already demonstrated its worth to Colorado watcr users in the <br />San Luis Valley and to water users in New Mexico and Texas by assuring that the Rio Grande <br />Compact deliveries are met. <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program <br /> <br />The President's budget recommends $13.83 million for Title 11 construction and General <br />Investigation activities and $2.3 million for Title 1 construction. The President's budget also <br />includes $4.015 million for operation and maintenance. Colorado supports at least this level of <br /> <br />4 <br />
