.

.

.

.

.

· Who manages the data?

· Does it cost to use the data?

· Is the data in flat files?

· Is the data accessible through third paIty software?

· What is the reliability of the data?

The results of analyzing these issues have direct effects on what options are available
for storing, retrieving, and modifying the data with respect to CRDSS.

There will be two work products for this task. The first will be a matrix which shows
the relationships between the data and the models. A second matrix will show the
relationships between problems (Le. decisions to be made) and data used in the decision
. making process. w_ .

- TASK..t: DEFINITION OF ALTERNATIVE USER INTERFACES

Introduction

A system such as CRDSS needs to accommodate a diverse set of users. Depending
on their needs, these users may have to access the system both remotely and locally from
cc.mputers which have different hardware and software capabilities. An evaluation of the
needs of the users must be made in order to derennine which capabilities must be made
available to them, based on the computers they have at their disposal (or can acquire) and on
their location.

Before these evaluations can be made, relevant user types must be determined.
Criteria which must be taken into account are available computing power and the degree of
computer and water-related knowledge. With respect to computing power, users may have
access to any combination of the following hardware/software options:

· personal computers, mainframes, or workstations;

. stand-alone or networked machines;

· modem connections present or absent;

· different operating systems;

. various types of available software; and

. differential performance capabilities.

-9-
