.

.

.

"! ~

Deliverables to State:
A task memorandum describing the accuracy assessment process used.
Files: Accuracy Assessment Report - Final accuracy assessment tables will be
created from ERDAS Imagine and delivered as .txt or MS Excel .xls files.

Task 18. Post Processing

Smoothing

After the classification meets or exceeds the specified accuracy standards, the data should be
generalized to remove "salt and pepper." This process involves dropping out pixel clumps
under a certain size threshold and filling those areas in with a surrounding category. Small
pixel clumps corresponding to edge effects from the original data are often incorrectly
classified, and should be eliminated (Booth and Oldfield, 1989). Elimination of small pixel
clumps also greatly reduces the number of polygons produced when the raster data are
converted to ARC/INFO format. The contractor will set the minimum mapping unit to 1 acre or
greater and perform clump and sieve operations on the data.

Edge-matching

The contractor will perform edge matching along scene boundaries so that field boundary
shapes are maintained and the crop type and irrigation status is consistent.

Mosaicing and Quadrangle Tiling

Before clipping the classification to the USGS quad boundaries, all of the classified images for
a division should be stitched together to form one large image. The classification can then be
tiled into the map sheet units.

Deliverables to State:
A task memorandum describing process.

Images:
Final Classification (Two files) - This will include the final classification for
Irrigation Status and Crop Type from the Landsat data. The data will have been
classified, edited for the minimum mapping unit and edge matched where
necessary in .img format for each division. The Arclnfo Dolvqon coverage with
the acres, irr_status, and crop_type information for 2000.

Page 22
