<br />. <br /> <br />Feasibi1ity of the Rehabi1itation <br />of the <br />Ster1ing Irrigation Company Diversion Structure <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The Sterling Irrigation Company (SIC) is a Colorado Ditch Company <br />and a Non-profit corporation. Articles of Incorporation and <br />Bylaws are included in Appendix A. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SIC was formed in July 1873 to construct and operate the Sterling <br />No.1 Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The SIC was <br />incorporated in 1915. The SIC currently has 88 shareholders with <br />1290 shares of stock. The Company can divert 113.9 cubic feet of <br />water per second of time from the South Platte River, at a <br />headgate located about 2 miles northeast of Atwood, Colorado. <br />From this headgate, the SIC has had an average annual diversion <br />of 23,563 acre feet or approximately 18 acre feet per share. <br /> <br />Project Service Area <br /> <br />a <br /> <br />The service area is located in Logan County, from about 8 miles <br />southwest of Sterling to about 8 miles north of Sterling. <br />Although SIC water is not tied to specific irrigated lands, the <br />service area is generally located on the northwesterly side of <br />the South Platte River, between Atwood to beyond Sterling. The <br />SIC service area irrigates on the average 7400 acres. The water <br />is typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa, and sugar beets. <br />The elevation is 3970 feet.
