Cottonwood Creek, which was installed in the 1920's. The wooden pipeline
apparently extended out onto the peninsula of land between Cottonwood
Creek and Rapid Creek, and then dropped over the steep canyon wall into
Cottonwood Creek about 3 miles above the confluence with Rapid Creek.
It was replaced by a cast iron pipe in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

In 1940, the Town applied f()r a right-of-way for a road in Cottonwood
Creek and a caretaker's cabin at the site of what is now Cabin Reservoir.
The pipeline from the Cottonwood Creek pipeline to Kruzen Springs was
constructed in the early 1950's at the same time Palisade Reservoirs #1 and
#3 were developed, along with several of the springs in Upper Rapid Creek
Basin. Cabin Reservoir was also constructed in 1956, with a capacity of
about 120 acre feet. This Clipacity was increased to 1020 acre feet in 1982
and 1983; embankment height was increased from 45 ft. to 85 ft. The
Town's water treatment plant was constructed in 1984 and replaced an old
micro screen system.

Granat Reservoir and Denisol:1 Reservoir, both located in a middle tributary
of Rapid Creek, were constnlcted in 1992. Vincent Reservoirs #1 and #2
located on top of Grand Me~ on Cottonwood Creek (now Palisade
Reservoirs #4 and #5) were breeched in the mid-1980's, reconstructed in
about 1994 and breeched again in 1995. The Town of Palisade is
continuing to make upgrades of its various springs and surface diversions in
order to maximize collection of water in the Rapid Creek basin.

2.

Description of Existing Storage and c.ol1ection Facilities

The raw water collection facUities consist of a very extensive system of
springs, surface diversions, reservoirs, and pipelines. Figure IV -5 shows
the location and types of the various facilities owned and operated by the
Town in Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek. A brief description of each
of the categories of facilities is outlined below:

a. Reservoirs. The Town owns seven reservoirs. Palisade Reservoirs
#1 and #3, Granat Reservoir and Denison Reservoir are on the
Rapid Creek drainage; Palisade Reservoirs #4 and #5 (Vincent
Reservoirs #1 and #2) and Cabin Reservoir are on the Cottonwood
Creek drainage. PaliWle Reservoirs No. 4 and 5 are presently
breeched and have no storage capacity.

There are also two reservoirs which were decreed at one time, but
are non-existent~ Palisade Reservoir #2 is listed on some water
rights documents, but was apparently never built. Eggar Reservoir
was originally built, but seldom used. It was supplied water by the

IV-4
