.

the reservoir-filling criteria. As the inflows to the reservoir
exceed the discharge capacity of the hydroturbines, the bypass outlet
will supplement passing the spring flood runoff through the gated
spi 11 way .

The discharge capacity of the low-level bypass outlet is illustrated
in Figure III-2. With the valve 100% open, the outlet's discharge
capacity will range from 1,352 cfs at a reservoir pool elevation of
5,220 ft to 1,913 cfs at a reservoir elevation of 5,250 ft. The
bypass outlet and the power outlets combined will discharge 8,513 cfs
at a normal pool elevation of 5,250 ft. Inflows to the reservoir in
excess of 8,513 cfs will be discharged by the gated overflow spill-
way.

.

D. GATED SPILLWAY
In addition to the power and bypass outlets, there will be a gated
spi 11 way to release high flows dur i ng the occurrence of a 500-year
flood and spring floods. These flows cannot be contained in the
limited surcharge storage available in the reservoir. Therefore,
spi 11 way flows will result during the spring flood period in all
years of flow except dry years. The spillway also provides head
control for power generation, and supplements or replaces the bypass
outlet operation when the reservoir level is within the surcharge
storage space.

The spi 11 way gates wi 11 operate so that they will open automat ica lly
at successively increasing reservoir levels above a normal reservoir
pool elevation of 5,250 ft. Figure 111-3 shows the spillway
discharge at various reservoir levels and gate openings. Each radial
gate will be equipped with a power hoist and will be partially
counterbalanced for manual control. An alternate power source is
provided at the powerhouse to reduce the risk of the gates being

.

3686-a/7

II 1-4
