IV-23

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

(Gurley Canyon) in the vicinity of the current raw
water reservoir. This water was initially conveyed
to Town via a now abandon~d pipeline, hence the name
Norwood Pipeline. Contri~uting area is upstream
Gurley Canyon but below Gurley Reservoir. These
rights are junior to Prio~ity No. 214 rights, which
apparently pertain to Gurley Canyon waters
originating above Gurley Reservoir Dam. The only
other diversions upstream are other Town rights.

Availabilitv. Once again; the difficulty of
determining water availab~lity arises. Historic
information regarding spr~ngs along Gurley Canyon
are of little use, becaus~ most observations
preceded the latest reservoir improvements which has
reduced leakage and seepage, and has also had a
significant impact on dow~stream springs.
Information given to old timers indicates that most
of the springs did not exist prior to Gurley
Reservoir.

c. Usaae of Surface Riahts. 'Although the quantity of
water available is unknowri, the water from the
surface rights has histor~cally been used by the
Town. On a typical year, 'the Town's Farmers I shares
are worth about 144 acre feet (see section B3).
Records indicate that up to 180 acre feet of water
is used by the Norwood-Wrights Mesa system each
year. Sources other than;Gurley shares are
required, and it is likely that much of it has come
from the Town's direct flow rights.

4.

Water Rights For Subsurface Diversions.

a. Norwood Infiltration Pipeline.

Two water rights pertain to the Norwood Infiltration
Pipeline. Priority No. 5~3 is for 0.57 cfs absolute
and No. 513C is for 0.18 cfs conditional. The
source is "springs and grqundwater in Gurley
Canyon". Water in the adjacent Gurley Ditch is a
likely source of recharge.: Spring and groundwater
is collected by means of an underground perforated
collection pipeline, which apparently had measurable
output as high as 0.57 cfs. If and when output
reached and maintained 0.75 cfs, the Town would
relinquish its right to use the first 1/4 cfs from
Priority No. 214. '

b. Gardner Pipeline (Spring).

The District owns two rights on the Gardner
Spring/pipeline, which is located adjacent to Gurley
Ditch below the Town Headgate. Priority No. 478
