IV-13

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

B2. DESCRIPTIONS OF SUBSURFACE WATER SOURCES.

1. General Overview.

There are several shallow subsurface diversions
consisting of springs and infiltration galleries
located adjacent to the G~rley Ditch near the
surface diversion point. :Some of the subsurface
diversions have been completely abandoned. The
likely water source for t~ese subsurface diversions
is natural ground water f~ow and recharge from flow
in the Gurley Ditch, althqugh irrigation runoff
probably contributes also. The waterflow of the
various subsurface systems has not been well
documented, since there are no individual
measurement devices.

Based on information provided by the Town of
Norwood, it appears that qnly a portion of the
subsurface diversions hav~ water rights filings.
Also, since the descriptiqns are somewhat sketchy,
(and inaccurate) it is di~ficult to correlate the
water right filing with the actual diversion. Thus,
the terminology used herein for the various
subsurface diversions must be considered approximate
and additional research m~y be needed.

The subsurface diversion systems in use includes the
following (Figure III-B):!

Gardner Sprinas and pfpeline. This is a
combination spring and infiltration gallery.
(Priorities No. 478 and 511.)

Norwood Infiltration Pipeline. This system
consists of perforated pipe located below
infiltration ponds (p~iority No. 513).

,
Abandoned subsurface wate~ systems include the
following:

Infiltration Pipe East of Town Reservoir. This
is an abandoned infiltration gallery located
north of Gardner Springs. No water right filing
was found. It is shown on the 1977-78 plans; no
other information is available.

'Water Plant' Infiltration Gallerv. There is
also an old infiltrat~on gallery (also shown on
the 1977-78 plans) loqated 500 feet south of the
water treatment plant. No water rights filing
was found; no other information is available.
