I

I

I

1. Require written documentation of all maintenance and repair work

performed on the system. A proposed sample form for this purpose

is included in Appendix C.

I

I

The form should indicate the nature of the work, location with refer-
ences, materials and any ot~er pertinent data.

I

2. Transfer information from t~e repair and maintenance log to a master

set of district mapping. A reproducible set of district maps may be

used for this purpose.

All corrections and up-to-date information should be shown on the
master set of district mapping.

I

I

I

3. Provide monuments beside roadways at appropriate intervals with the

necessary information to locate valves and mains. All distances and

directions would be referenced to the monument.

I

A detail of an inexpensive type of monument suitable for this purpose
is shown in Figure-II.

I

I

C. Distribution Lines

I

The primary problems associated with the distribution lines are freezing

in winter, breaks, inadequate valving, dead ends, and pressure variation. The

freezing problems are caused by shallow depth of the water mains. These lines

were initially installed in such a manner.

I

I

The winter of 1978-79 was the coldest winter experienced since the district

was established in 1964. The frost line was estimated to be 1n excess of 6 feet

in many areas. Frozen segments of the system interrupted water supplies to many

of the residents. Therefore, many of the recommended distribution line improve-

ments are specifically for relief of freezing problems and are limited primarily

to the areas with a history of freezing problems. It is likely that additional

areas could experience similar freezing problems in the future under more severe

winter conditions.

I

I

I

Replacement lines have been recOtmnended to be 6" V, rather than 4" v,.

I

-52-
