I

I

I

CHAPTER IX
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE EXISTING SYSTEM

I

I

A. General

I

Based on the hydraulic analysis presented in Chapter VIII, field inspec-
tions of the existing system, and discussions with the district representatives;
a number of problems were identified.' The recommended improvements in this
chapter will resolve most of these problems and upgrade the system to provide
a more reliable water supply. Improvements to upgrade the existing system
are considered to be Phase I work. Phase II work will include improvements
required for expanded service as the district's population grows. Phase II
projections are discussed in Chapter X.

I

I

I

I

The proposed improvements are described in detail below and the locations
are shown on Figures 9 and lO at the end of this chapter.

I

I

B. Documentation of Existing Facilities

I

As previously discussed, the locations

tions have not been thoroughly documented.

system are not available. When a break in

of water mains, valves, and connec-

Construction drawings for the

the main occurs, much time is eX~

I

I

pended in locating valves to turn 'off the water and in locating the alignment
of the main in the road. The locations of existing facilities must be clearly
documented to aid fu ture operators of the system and to reduce unnecessary
maintenance costs due to unnecessary added effort.

I

It is recommended that the following steps be initiated to improve docu-
mentation of the existing facilities:

I

I

I

-51-
