Powell Park Reservoir would provide storage for oil shale
water and possible hydropower generation.

Powell Park Dam and Reservoir would be located on the White River about 10
miles downstream from Meeker. The reservoir capacity behind a dam 145 feet
high would be about 75,000 acre-feet, 40,000 acre-feet of which would be
active capacity. A significant amount of the volume would be surcharge for
temporary flood storage.

The left abutment of Powell Park Dam is in the lower part of the Parachute
Creek Member, and the right abutment is in the Garden Gulch Member of the
Green River Formation. The site is on the northeast part of the Piceance
Creek Basin so the rocks are dipping to the southwest at approximately 5
degrees; therefore, the embankment would be parallel to the dip. The rocks
are mostly sandstone, siltstone, and claystones with some shale. The rock
appears to be quite competent and no particular problems were seen. The
alluvium in the river is probably 100 feet in depth.

Lost Park Dam and Reservoir would be located on Lost Creek about three miles
above the junction of Lost Creek and the North Fork of the White River. The
dam height would be about 105 feet and the reservoir capacity would include
15,000 acre-feet of active storage. The site was not inspected, as
construction was considered feasible by the USBR.

The delivery system for irrigation and industrial coal water would
a diversion dam on the North Fork just downstream of Lost Creek.
long pipeline from the diversion dam would parallel the river
road downstream to the mouth of Big Beaver Creek. From this
pipeline would follow Big Beaver Creek on the west side of Lake
about three miles to the tunnel.

begin at
A l3-mile
and county
point, the
Avery for

Water would be released from Lost Park Reservoir when necessary to meet
municipal and domestic demands. Most demands could be met from natural
inflow below the reservoir. Oil shale water would be furnished from Powell
Park, both through the pipeline to lower Piceance Creek, and by releases to
the White River.

IV-9
