Most of the data presented in these
tables is from the period 1951 through 1974 except as noted.

Generally the Fort Collins data is similar to the Greeley data. Of the total annual
precipitation 75 percent generally falls during the period from April through September.
For the data period there was an average of 44 to 41 thunderstorms (depending on the
station area) each year with 24 to 29 of these storms occurring in the summer. In some
years summer hailstorms cause severe local damage to crops. Average seasonal snowfall
for the two areas ranges from 48 to 40 inches with the greatest snowdepth at any time
ranging from 18 to 30 inches. On the average 18 days per year will have at least 1 inch
of snow on the ground but the number of days varies greatly from year to year. The
prevailing wind for both areas is from the south with the average highest wind speed
occurring in April.

22539G/DOUGI.J\S.DAM 12.17-90/REPORTS3

5
