Douglas Dam is situated on Dry Creek,
which is a tributary to Cache LaPoudre River, and stores water that is administered by
the Windsor Reservoir and Canal Company for irrigation use. Reservoir water serves
irrigated lands in the area extending south of the Eaton Ditch and north of the Greeley
No.2 Ditch as shown on Figure 1-1.

1.2 LOCATION

Douglas Dam is located in Larimer County approximately seven miles north of Fort
Collins and four miles west of Wellington, Colorado. The crest of the dam is at about
elevation 5213 (USGS).

1.3 CLIMATE

Climatological information for the project area was obtained from: (1) the Annual
Summary of Climatological Data for Colorado for 1987 published by the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; (2) Soil Surveys for Larimer and Weld
Counties published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service;and
(3) the Colorado state climatological center in Fort Collins. Climate characterization for
the project area is represented by data provided by the Fort Collins and Greeley
stations.

The Fort Collins station provides information applicable to Douglas Dam and Reservoir
and the far western portion of the service area while the Greeley station data is
appropriate for the middle and eastern parts of the service area. Temperature and
precipitation data is presented in Table 1-1, freeze information is presented in Table 1-2

22539GIDOUGl..J\S.DAM 12-17-90/REPORTS3

4
