No sites previously recorded or <br />currently listed in the National Register of Historic Places <br />are within the proximity of the work area." <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />A portion of the land leading to the dam site is being donated to the <br />Audobon Society by Mr. and Mrs J. W. Hershey. Mrs. Hershey has expressed <br />concern that improved access through her land to Forest Service property <br />would interfere with a natural migration route for elk and deer. <br />Currently, the elk and deer use the area occupied by the reservoir basin <br />and the Hershey property as winter feeding grounds. Documentation of these <br />observations is beyond the scope of this study, but the concerns expressed <br />by the Hersheys should be examined during project planning stages. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Since the proj ect is located on Forest Service property, improved <br />access to the reservoir and the Forest Service land may. increase the <br />scattering of trash and debris. However, if the reservoir were declared a <br />public watershed it would be possible to restrict access and the attendant <br />problems of litter and vandalism. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />At the present time no terrestrial or aquatic endangered species have <br />been identified in environmental studies of areas adjacent to the project <br />area (U.S. Forest SErvice, 1986). <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />4.4 RIGHT OF WAY AND LAND ACQUISITION <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Rights-of-way or land ownership will have to be obtained from private <br />sources for the canal leading into the proposed reservoir, the dam and <br />reservoir basin, the pipeline route, and the access road to the dam site. <br />A right-of-way permit from the Forest Service will also have to be <br />obtained. The right-of-way required for each component will be discussed <br />separately. Right-of-way acquisition costs were assumed to be $7,500 per <br /> <br />acre. <br /> <br />4-3 <br />
