The program perfo\'1'1ls analyses of the flow anr!
pressure distribution in water systems using the Hardy Cross method. It can
be used to study exi sti ng water systems and to assess the impact of proposer!
expansions and alterations to the water system.

The Towaoc di stri buti on system is represented by a network of pi pe j uncti ons
(nodesl and interconnections (pipes). Each node and pipe has been assigned an
i denti fi cati on number; certai n data such as pi pe si ze and water demands are
provided for each. A base model was initially assembled by the Indian Health
Service (IHS). Oesign drawings and a basic knowledge of the system were used
to develop the base system of pipe sizes, lengths and material, and node
elevations. An IHS design manual was used to estimate water flow demands at
the nodes. This involved counting the number of houses in the vicinity of
each node and using recommended peak demand rates for that number of houses.
Some adjustments were made to the IHS initial demand estimates.

The base IHS model was modifi ed duri ng thi s study to refl ect changes in the
distribution system based on review of design drawings, site inspections, and
discussions with persons familiar with the SysteM. Although the same demand
distribution established by the IHS was maintained, the actual demands were
modified to reflect the following. A 1987 population estimate of 1,330
persons was used. A1 so, an average per capi ta consumpti on of 200 gpd was

4-2

l062c
