The table shows that, while the X-V Irrigating Ditch does not
have a particularly senior water right, it does receive a good supply of water owing to its
favorable location on the river. During water years 1990-94, the water diverted into the canal
averaged 11,637 acre-feet annually. LAWMA's interest in this water would be at least
66/69ths, or 95.65 percent, which provided 11,131 acre-feet during water years 1990-94.
Water diverted under the Graham Ditch water right, i.e., water that was diverted into the X-V
Irrigating Ditch at a rate greater than 69 cfs, was excluded from this table.

Part of the water shown in Table 10 was obtained from the X-V and Graham Article
II Account. This account receives 5.20 percent of the releases from conservation storage for
Colorado ditches and part of transit loss account residual. Table 8 in column 3 shows the
inflow into the account during water years 1980-94. This water averaged 5,542 acre-feet
annually. During water years 1990-94, the inflow into the X-V and Graham Account averaged
2,046 acre-feet annually. The X-V and Graham Account water accounted for about 16
percent of the total diversion into the X-V Canal during 1990-94.

Table 11 summarizes estimates of the consumptive use from LAWMA's interests in
the X-V surface water rights during water years 1950-94. These estimates reflect the
application of 66/69ths of the water from Table 10 to 3,026 irrigated acres. They were
based on canal, lateral, and farm efficiencies from the Colorado Water Budget. Specifically,
canal and lateral efficiencies were estimated at 80 and 95 percent respectively. The farm
efficiency was allowed to reach a maximum of 75 percent. The consumptive irrigation
requirements were calculated using the Modified Blaney-Criddle Method with climatic data
from the Lamar and Holly weather stations. The distribution of crops was obtained from the
Colorado Water Budget Documentation and is shown in the following tabulation:

CroD
Alfalfa
Winter Wheat
Grain Sorghum
Corn

Percentaae

49

31

15

5

These estimates of consumptive use include an allowance for evaporation and transpiration
losses in the X-V Irrigating Ditch and laterals amounting to 5 percent of the losses therein.

24
