Also to be considered

are the expected points of diversion of Project water yield,

power and non-power releases, reservoir evaporation, variable

headwater-tail water levels, power conduit head losses, and

turbine efficiencies.

o

Select the Project arrangement best suited for the site. The

selection will be based on studies of al ternati ve conceptual

designs of Project features and types of dam, considering the

resul ts of the preliminary operation studies for water yield,

site inspections and geotechnical investigations. Dam types

to be considered are embankment and concrete. The most eco-

nomical ~d practical alternative concept will be selected.

o

Study alternative railroad relocation alignments and select
the most economical and practical route.

o

Study other relocation needs and make estimates of their

requirements. These include an existing transmission line

and new municipal facilities located at the upper end of the

reservoir.

o

Optimize the design of the Project features and develop pre-

liminary design drawings of the selected Project arrange-

ment. This will include design optimization studies for the

outlet conduit to maximize power benefits; development and

evaluation of the preliminary design of the dam, spillway,

and powerhouse based on the results of field investigations;

and selection of mechanical and electrical powerhouse equip-

ment.

o

Based on a literature review, consultation with the State,

and the results of the operation studies, and the water

rights evaluation, estimate the potential uses of the water

supply developed by the Project. Recreational use is outside

the scope of the study.

1-5
