Approximately 8 to 10 test pits will be
excavated at the locations of the existing
s i nkho 1 es. The purpose of th i sport i on of the
investigation is to trace and dimension the
existing sinkholes near the ground surface and
allow an evaluation of the materials through
which they developed;

2. Approximately 6 to 8 test pits will be
excavated at selected locations on the existing
embankment. The purpose of this part of the
program is to characterize the soi 1 s used to
construct the embankment; and

3. Approximately 20 test pits will be excavated in
potent i a 1 borrow areas around the impoundment.
These pits will be used to identify locally
available soil types and quantities for
possible use in sinkhole backfilling, slope
regrading and seepage reduction blanketing.
I

The subsurface materials encountered in the test pits
will be visually classified in the field by our field
engineer. Detailed test pit logs, showing the
,stratigraphy and type of materials encountered will be
prepared. Samp 1 es of representat ive subsurface materi a 1 s
will be obtained for laboratory testing.

For cost est imat i ng purposes, we have assumed that
the backhoe work wi 11 be performed by the FWDC under the

-6-
