CHAPTER I
GENERAL INFORMATION

A. PROJECT MAP

The project map is included in this Chapter as Exhibit I-A. It shows
the location of the basic existing and proposed project improvements
to the Town of Keenesburg water system. The general water service
area for the Town can be seen on the project map. The relationship
of Keenesburg to other nearby communities is shown on Exhibit I-B
which is included within this Chapter.

B. LOCATION

The Town of Keenesburg is located in Weld County, Colorado, Section 26,
Township 2 North, Range 64 West. The ground elevation in the Town
slopes from 4980 feet elevation at the northwest corner to 4900 feet
elevation in the southeast corner of the Town. Keenesburg is located
approximately 35 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado along Interstate
Highway 80. That is approximately 25 miles southeast of Greeley,
Colorado. Its relationship to other communities in the area can be
seen on the location map designated Exhibit I-B.

C. CLIMATE

Keenesburg is located ina semi-arid region of Colorado. It experiences
a climate typical of that of the Denver region except that it has
normally somewhat lesser amounts of precipitation and a slightly higher
temperature due to its location farther away from the front range. It
does not normally experience the amount of wind currents that exist
closer to the mountain front range.

The United States Weather Bureau recorded the yearly wind velocity and
direction in the Denver-Brighton area during the period of 1931-1960.
