Existing facilities and condition. <br />The existing facilities of the Handy Ditch Company include the diversion <br />structure from the Big Thompson River; the Handy Ditch and associated water <br />rights; Welch Reservoir and Welch Lateral; Hertha Reservoir (capacity 1800 <br />acre-feet); 40% of Ryan's Gulch (annual yield approximately 320 acre-feet); <br />and various headgates to serve farm laterals. In addition, the Ditch Company <br />owns one share of Big Thompson Ditch and Reservoir Company with an average <br />annual yield of approximately 700 acre-feet of water. These features are <br />shown on Figure 1. <br />The Handy Ditch Company facilities are in good condition. As indicated <br />in the Handy Ditch Company History (Chapter II), numerous improvements have <br />been made throughout the system over the years. Most significantly, The Handy <br />Ditch Company and the Soil Conservation Service spent $650,000 renovating the <br />system about ten years ago. <br />2. Maintenance Equipment <br />The Handy Ditch Company owns no major maintenance equipment, and hires <br />the work done as needed. <br /> <br />14 <br />
