The invert of this conduit
corresponds with a gage height of 7.5 feet. Outlet No.2 releases water into
the earthcut Handy Ditch.
Outlet No.3 is the easternmost of the three outlets and is used to
release water into an underground pipe, which carries it to one farm located
southeast of the dam. The elevation of this outlet is approximately gage
height 19. This outlet has been modified considerably in order to adapt it to
function as a service spillway.

D. Climate
Climatological data was obtained from the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration and includes mean monthly temperature, frost dates,
and precipitation at the Longmont 2ESE station for the years 1950 through
1986. The mean monthly temperature varies from an average low of
approximately 27 degrees F in January to an average high of about 72 degrees F
in July (see Table 1, page 7). Frosts of 28 degrees F occurred in the spring
as early as April 4 (1977) and as late as May 14 (1953). Frosts of 32 degrees
F occurred in the spring as early as April 19 (1986) and as late as June 2
(1951). In the fall, frosts of 32 degrees F occurred as early as September 10
(1962) and as late as October 22 (1963); while frosts of 28 degrees F occurred
as early as September 19 (1971) and as late as October 31 (1974).
Temperatures are shown in Table 2, page 8. A precipitation summary for 1950
through 1986 is shown on Table 3, page 9. Average annual precipitation in the
study area is approximately 13 inches.
Winds in the project area are generally from west to east and, although
occasionally quite strong, rarely cause crop damage. Most of the soil in the
project area is not sandy, thus wind damage is minimal. Hail occurs nearly

5
