From the inlet structure on Brush Creek, water is piped to one

earthen holding pond and a concrete settling pond. It is recommended

that the earthen holding pond have a dike constructed down the middle

of the pond to provide two earthen holding ponds. The water would

then be taken out,of the first earthen holding pond, piped to the

concrete settling pond, and by meanS of a rough filter and baffles,

the concrete settling pond would produce a much clearer water to

.

send to the filtering plant. The rough filter would have to be pro-

vided with a backwash system. The water from the backwash system

would be extremely turbid and should not be put back into Brush Creek

immediately. Instead, it should be dumped back into the second earthen

holding pond created by the dike constructed down the middle of the

existing earthen holding pond. The turbidity in the backwash water

v

would then settle out into thie pond before entering Brush Creek. A

c

schematic of how this could be accomplished is shown on Exhibit E at

the end of this report.

There are several alternates to cleaning up the raw water which

enters the treatment plant and these will be mentioned for informational

purposes only.

One alternate for removing the turbidity from the Brush Creek water

.

would be to construct? holding pond that would retain the water from a

thirty to sixty day period. A pond of this size, based on a projected

1991 water consumption, would be a pond 10 feet deep extending over

13 square acres. This alternate would involve considerable expense in
'"- ......

land acquisition, earth moving, and piping. This alternate would not

be economically feasible.

Another alternate for obtaining less turbid water for the treat-

ment plant would be to take water out of East Brush Creek, which enters

Brush Creek about one and three-quarters of a mile above the present

- 47 -
