intake structure would be accepted and a change of a point of diver-

sion take place, that it does so concurrently with a change in the

adjudication of the use of water. Cost estimates for the preceding

proposal will be developed later in this report.

Treated Water Transmission: In the 1970-71 construction period, the

town of Eagle paid about $132,000 to install a new 12" water main from

the water treatment plant to the distribution system in town. This

.

water main is relatively sound and has adequate capacity to carry the

water needs of the town. In this report, it will not be recommended

that any change be made to the treated water transmission line at this
-- .--

time.

Storage: Additional storage should be provided North of the Eagle

River at the same elevation as the present storage facilities situ-

ated near the water treatment plant. Domestic water storage is pro-

vided in any well engineered and balanced water system for the following

reasons: (a) to provide reserve flow to meet fire demands, (b) to

equalize line and distribution losses by providing a supply to the

system from several sources; under ideal conditions, storage should

be at the opposite end of the system from the primary supply. Presently,

.

the town is considering serving 317 taps on the north side of the Eagle

River within the next ten years. These taps represent a sizeable per-

cent of the total water taps that the town now serves. When recom-

mended storage is computed by standard engineering methods, the pop-

ulation, 120 percent 'of the maximum day demand, fire flow storage,

emergency storage based on 25 percent of the total storage, it is

taken into consideration. In Table VI the maximum day water require-

ments for the town of Eagle were projected on a yearly basis to the

- 43 -

.
