-,

Proposed Improvements

Due to the amount of the outstanding water bonds, the existing water

rates and the financial repayment capacity of the town of Eagle, only the

essential improvements to the ~ater system will be recommended in this re-

port. However, all of the improvements which are essential will be dis-

cussed and a list of prioritie@ will 'be presented in the recommendations

and conclusions section of thi@ report.

Distribution System: The distribution system is composed mostly of

4", 6", 8", and 12" cast !ron pipe. Approximately 8,300 feet of new

6" and 8" distribution system line should be installed to eliminate

dead end lines and to improve fire flow capabilities. Some of the

proposed lines would repl"ce existing 4" lines and others would be

for system looping.

During periods of low demand the pressure in some parts of town

creates problems with was~ers in water faucets in individual homes.

Any small leaks in the system will also waste more water under greater

pressure. The high pressure in town has its assets and its liabilities.

The assets are that water can be satisfactorily supplied to residents

for both domestic and fire protection uses in small diameter pipes.

The liabilities are greater loss of water through pipe leaks and

unwarranted strain on household plumbing and appliances hooked up to

the water system.

There are several methOds of correcting the high pressure in the

water mains and households. The most common method and probably the

least expensive in the long run is to ask each water user to install

an automatic pressure reducing and regulating valve in his plumbing

system. These valves are called regulators. The regulator valves

should be installed with a strainer at the inlet end of each regulator.

.

.

- :39 -

.
