<br />~ <br /> <br />Treatment facility: In the 1970-71 construction period, the town of <br /> <br />Eagle paid approximately $84,000 for a diatomaceous-earth water treat- <br /> <br />ment facility. This diatomaceous-earth water treatment plant is de- <br /> <br />signed with all of the necessary equipment to make an automatic filter- <br /> <br />ing system. Once the pla~t is set at a certain flow rate, the plant <br /> <br />will continue to produce ~ater at that rate until the storage tanks <br /> <br />raise to a pre-determined level. Once the tanks reach this level, <br /> <br />the plant will shut itself off and stay off until the water in the <br />storage tanks lowers to a pre-determined level. At this time the <br />plant will commence with ~he filtering of domestic water. <br />The plant is an expeosive and relatively complicated piece of <br /> <br />equipment. The operation of this requires a skilled technician to <br /> <br />operate it. Under an act of the Colorado Legislature, all water <br /> <br />treatment operators will ~ave to be certified to operate water plants. <br /> <br />The plant, although autom~tic, still requires the normal attention and <br /> <br />maintenance which is norm~lly required by mechanical moving parts. <br /> <br />The plant is designed to treat 690 GPM of water. During design <br /> <br />and construction of the plant, space was provided to install two more <br /> <br />filters. The addition of these two filters would double the plant's <br /> <br />capacity to treat 1,380 GPM of water. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Water intake structure and settling ponds: In 1973 a new concrete <br /> <br />dam and intake structure were constructed on Brush Creek at the pre- <br /> <br />sent point of water diversion. During periods of extreme cold winter <br /> <br />weather a significant amount of maintenance is required to keep the <br /> <br />ice from blocking the inlet to the settling ponds. <br />From the inlet structure water is piped to an earthen holding <br /> <br />pond and then on to a concrete settling tank. The intake structure <br /> <br />- 11 - <br />
