PART III

POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

TRINIDA.D DAM AND RESERVOlR

The Trinidad Dam and Reservoir, to be constructed by the
Corps of Engineers, will be the only new federally constructed
works associated with the development. The dam will be an
earth-fill structure with a height of 200 feet above the original
stream elevation, The reservoir, initially, will have 114,500
acre-feet of active storage space which the advanced planning
studies indicated to be the optimum sized reservoir, Table 1
shows the initial allocation of space in the reservoir.

Table l.--Trinidad Reservoir space allocation

.Toint use *
Fish and recreation
Irrigation
Flood control
Total

39,000
4,500
.20,000
51,000
n4,500

Purpose

Acre-feet

* For irrigation and sediment accumulation

A conservation (irrigation) pool of 55,000 acre-feet was
indicated in the initial planning studies as described in
H.D. Water rights for the 20,000 acre-feet of
irrigation capacity will be provided by transfer of the Model
Reservoir storage decree.

-.. .'.,'

3
