Except as otherwise provided by law, if this contract pro~'ides for the payment of more than five thousand <br />dollars 'nnd requires or invoh'es the employment of l:Iborl'rs or mechanics in the construction, alteration or repair of <br />any building or other public work, (except highi'PYs. highway hridges, underpasses and highway structures of all <br />kinds) within the geogmphicallimits of the State, the rate of wa~e for alll.lborers ,1l1d mechanics employed by the <br />contmctor or any subcontmctor 011 the huildin~ or puhlic work covered by this contmct shall be not less than the <br />prevailing rate of wllge,~ for work of a similar nature in thl' city, town, village or other ch'iJ subdivision of the State in <br />which the .building or other publie work is located.
