<br />e-,} <br />, , <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />INTERIM WORK EFFORTS <br /> <br />TASK El.0 <br /> <br />FLOW MEASUREMENT PROGRAM <br /> <br />Pumose: <br /> <br />Develop and initiate a /low measurement program on the Gurley and Cone intake systems and <br /> <br />the LiIylands distribution canal with the objective of estimating maximum ditch capacities. <br /> <br />Methodolol!V: A combined program of current metering and stage recording will be undertaken to obtain <br /> <br />data to be used for estimating the maximum capacity of the Gurley and Cone Intake Ditches, <br /> <br />A program of current metering will be undertaken to obtain data to be used for estimating the <br /> <br />maximum capacity of the Lilylands Canal at two locations. Boyle, in consultation with the <br /> <br />CWCB, will develop these programs, The CWCB and local entities will supply the equipment <br /> <br />necessary to make the measurements. Boyle personnel will make one trip to the field to <br /> <br />initiate the program. All other data collection efforts will be handled by CWCB and ditch <br /> <br />company personnel <br /> <br />Because the 1988 runoff season is anticipated to produce lower then normal/lows, estimation <br /> <br />of maximum ditch capacities will require heavy reliance on hydraulic calculations. M .nn;n~ <br /> <br />Equation, without consideration of backwater effects, in conjunction with measured cross, <br /> <br />section geometIy. /low, and corresponding depth of /low data will be used to estimate <br /> <br />maximum ditch capacities at the selected locations. <br /> <br />The capacity of the Gurley and Cone Intake Ditches immediately upstream of the reservoirs <br /> <br />will be estimated by installation of a staff gage on each ditch and the development of discharge <br /> <br />rating curves for these sections. The cross section geometIy at each staff gage will be <br /> <br />measured using a tripod mounted leve~ surveyors rod, and cloth tape, The discharge rating <br /> <br />3 <br />
