The lOO-year design storm was input into the HEC-l developed for the PMF
hydrologic investigation. The principal spillway was sized to pass the 100-year design storm.

The soils and geological investigation performed by Willard Owens Associates, Inc., Wheat
Ridge, Colorado in December 1977, was conducted prior to the embankment and spillway raise
in 1978. The principal recommendations based on this investigation included: (1) the dam
enlargement should be designed as a zoned embankment fill with chimney filter and toe drain
components; (2) the spring in right abutment should be drained; (3) the existing foundation
should be grouted to reduce the permeability of pervious gravels; and (4) the old spillway
should be backfilled and a new spillway should be located west of the dam and cut into the
slopes that form the abutment of the enlarged dam.

242161R1.DOC 02.12.97(3:08PM)1RPT

3-1
