In the spring this sand will be
washed down the river but this arrangement will allow water to be
diverted at a minimum cost. In addition, a hard point will be
constructed at a point above the dam to direct the river into the
main channel and away from the north side of the river where the
ditch intake is located.

The ditch will be cleaned from the headgate to where it
crosses Highway 96, a distance of some 6 1/2 miles. The grade of
the ditch has been established by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service (SCS).

Two wasteway structures will need to be extensively repaired
and two county road crossing culverts will have to be installed.
To facilitate the recharge of the aquifer under the irrigated land,
-recharge ponds will be incorporated into the ditch.

A pre-fabricated ditch intake structure has already been
installed as a temporary structure for 1996. A more permanent
structure will be installed during the 1996-97 winter storage
season.

COST ESTIMATE

The selected alternative is estimated to cost a total of
$ 710,000. Planning costs will be absorbed by the sponsor. Design
will be by the company engineer and NRCS (SCS). The construction
cost estimate, including contingencies, is provided by the company
engineer.

A concrete and rock hard point will be installed upstream of
the diversion dam in order to keep the river from going around the
north end of the dam during high water.

Item

Estimated Cost

Phase 1

Phase 2

1.
