The eastern bounderies of the <br />District and the City of Lakewood are synonymous and border the <br />western limits of the City of Denver, Colorado. The District is <br />approximately located within the SE ~4 of Section 13 and the NE 1/4 of <br />Section 24, Township 4 South, Range,6g West of the 6th Prime <br />Meridian. The present District consists of 140 acres of gently <br />roll ing terrain and has an average elevation of 5,435 feet above mean <br />sea level (See Location Map). <br /> <br />Cl imate <br /> <br />The Kelton Heights area climate is ~uch the same as the Denver area <br />and that of the central Rocky Mount~in Region. It is a semiarid cli- <br />mate modified by the Rocky MountainS to the west. The humidity is <br />generally quite low and extreme hot or cold weather does not usually <br />last long. Normal monthly temperatures and precipitation data are <br />available from a monthly weather recording station in Lakewood, <br />located approximately 5 miles northwest of Kelton Heights. However, <br />long term data for maximum and minimum temperatures and length of <br />frost free periods are not available. Data on temperature extremes <br />and frost free periods are given fof the Denver weather record station <br />at Stapleton Airport located approximately 9 miles east-northeast of <br />Kelton Heights. All weather data is referenced and given in Tables 1 <br />and 2. <br /> <br />Severe thunderstorms often occur during spring and su~ner. sometimes <br />bringing damaging hail and occasionally cause flash flooding. <br />Tornadoes hardly ever occur in this mountainous area. Heavy winter <br />blizzards are less frequent than areas to the east and are usually not <br />of long duration. <br /> <br />3 <br />
