The soil in the area under consideration is made up of
three main groups, Nunn, Denver and Kutch. These groups consist of
Ca1carous clay loam materials. The effect soils have on the project
is related to corrosion of pipe. These soils have a high corrosive
action on metal pipe and a low to moderately low corrosive action on
concrete pipe. All metal pipe materials used for the project should
be protected by some means to prevent corrosion.

Design

All proposed physical plans will be reviewed by the Denver Water
Department. Engineering standards are outl ined in "Engineering
Standards of the Board of Water Commi ss i oners, Denver, Colorado."
Fire protection ability will be reviewed by the Bancroft Fire District
and the Insurance Services Office. The Kelton Heights Water District
is presently planning on administering the engineering and construc-
tion contracts.

The DWD engineering standards include specifications for slzlng pipe
mains, hydraulic losses, line pressures, and protection against water
hammer. Minimum fire flow requirements and fire hydrant spacings are
specified by the Bancroft Fire District. Suggested fire flow require-
ments are estab1 ished by InsuranCe Services Office's "Guide For
Detennination of Required Fire Flow."

21
