Plans should
be initiated to expand treatment capacity by the addition of 350 gpm capacity.

4.

The existing water distribution system should be upgraded to meet the
current and future demands of the Town. Because of tuberculation and
deterioration, all 4, 6 and a-inch cast iron pipe installed prior to 1950
should be replaced with a 6-inch minimum diameter pipeline. Dead end pipe-
lines and small diameter, ,4-inch and smaller, should be interconnected to
improve distribution and pressureS.

5.

Ground water sources for raw water are discouraging. The use of the four
bedrock aquifers are not a feasible supply because of their low yields.
Alluvial wells which tap Colorado River waters through the alluvium may be
possible but data gleaned in the study yields insufficient data to conclude
feasibility. Field investigationS beyond the scope of this report is
necessary to determine if a suitable site exists. This would entail drilling
test wells on various sites and evaluating the results.

6.

There is an ample quantity of Colorado River water but quality varies
throughout the year. Acceptable quality is only during the high flow
months of May and June. Health department standards for quality are
exceeded during most of the year. This water must be treated and con-
sideration should be given for softening.

7.

Chemical analysis of the Colorado River water should be made monthly in
accordance with State Health Depaftment criteria to provide accurate
data for water treatment plant design.

8.

We recommend consideration be given to blending Colorado River water with
Pinion Mesa waters. Both waters must be treated with conventional fil-
tration processes similar to the Town's present plant. Blending may
take place after treatment.

-5-
