Proposal - Engine ~g Geologic Feasibility StudY~~
Proposed Coffintop Dam and Reservoir Site
June 8, 1981

Page 5

preliminary subsurface investigation by means of core drilling at 3 or 4
strategic locations along the dam aXis. The scope of services is specifically
defined and described as follows:

Aquisition and Review of Existing Data
All pertinent, existing, published and unpublished, geological
literature will be acquired and reviewed.

Topographic Mapping
Bench marks and other ground control poi nts wi 11 be located or
established in the Study Areas and marked for aerial photography. The
Study Area will be photograrTJl\etrically flown for: (1) the acquisition of
stereographic pairs of aerial color photographs and infrared imagery;
and (2) the preparation of a detailed, accurate topographic map of the Study
Area at a scale of one inch equal to one hundred feet (1" = 100') and a
contour interval of two feet (2').

The dam site, as identified on the attached Exhibit B, shall be
'illustrated on a topographic map at a scale of one inch equal to fifty
feet (1" = 50') which actually will be enlargements of appropriate
portions of the above describ~d, larger area map.

All topographic maps will be pencil office-edited manuscripts.

Field Mapping
By way of aerial photographic and infrared imagery interpretation
and careful field mapping,' detailed geologic maps of the Study Area as a
who le, as ill ustrated by EX~ibit A, and of the dam site as shown on
Exhibit B, shall be constructed. Such maps shall show: (1) observed or
inferred geological contacts between surficial soil deposits and litho-
stratigraphic bedrock units; (2) geologic symbols denoting such deposits or
units; (3) symbols showing the attitudes of geologic structural features;
(4) locations of detailed fracture-joint surveys; (5) locations of cross
sections; (6) locations of springs, marshy areas, and other areas of
groundwater, effluent, if any; and (7) any other pertinent geological
data.

, A mlnlmum of 1,000 lineal feet of detailed field fracture-joint
surveys will be conducted at selected locations on accessible outcrops of

UEBLACKER ASSOCIATES.
