..

.

.

Develop a step-by-step procedure memorandum for using precu to develop input files for future
updates to the Upper Gunnison scenario. This memorandum will include the required command
files. The memorandum will be provided to the CRWCD and the UGRWCD for review and
revised per their comments.

The RGDSS Historic Crop Consumptive Use Analysis Report, December 2000, will be updated
to reflect the use of precu in the input file development.

TASK 4 - UPDATE RGDSS BASIN WATER BUDGETS

Background:

The RGDSS water budget analyses were completed under the RGDSS Consumptive Use and Water
Budget contract with data available from other Contractors. Since the completion of that contract, data
resulting from more detailed modeling efforts has been made available,

Objective:

Revise the RGDSS basin water budgets (two) to include updated components resulting from more
detailed surface water and ground water modeling efforts, Upgrade the water budget technical
memoranda to reflect revisions made to the water budgets,

Task 4.1 Revise RGDSS Basin Water Budgets
Prepare the required new input files for the RGDSS basin water budgets, an annual water budget
of the entire Rio Grande Basin in Colorado, and a monthly water budget of the ground water
model area, using the current available data. Run the water budget scenarios to estimate the
residual, native vegetation ET.

Task 4.2 Update the RGDSS Water Bndget Documentation
Update the water budget technical memoranda to reflect revisions made to the water budgets.
Two memoranda were developed, RGDSS Water Budget Procedures Memorandum, May 2001,
and Task 8.\ Review of Previous Water Budgets, Both of these memoranda will be updated to
reflect the revised water budget scenarios' results and conclusions.

TASK 5 - ENHANCE MONTHLY GUNNISON STATEMOD MODEL

Background:

One of the primary goals for the StateMod modeling efforts for the CRDSS basins is to represent 100
percent of the consumptive use. StateMod simulations using the variable efficiency and soil moisture
accounting better represents the actual consumptive use, particularly in wet and dry hydrologic
conditions. This methodology provides the important benefit of better representing the interaction
between diversions, irrigation water requirements, and retUrn flows regardless of whether areas of the
basin are water-rich or water-short. In addition, better representation of wet and dry cycles can be critical
when the tool is applied to minimum streamflow and endangered species issues.

Task 5 will not proceed without written authorization from the CWCB.

Objective:

Page 15
