old facilities are required. One of the reconunendations for Phase II was the

replacement of the treated water transmission line from the water treatment

plant to the 0.4 MG Clear Water Reservoir.

After careful consideration of all of the reconunendations and financial

status of the Town of Hotchkiss, the Board of Trustees elected to prioritize

the reconunendations in Phase II and construct portions of the treated water

transmission line from the treatment plant to the 0.4 MG clear water reservoir.

In 1976 the "energy crunch" was upon uS but not near as critical in 1976 as it

is now in ]981. The Water Supply Master Plan Report did not address energy

generating potential of the Hotchkiss water system. This supplement to the

Water Supply Master Plan Report finds no fault with the 1976 Water Supply

Master Plan Report in not addressing the energy generating potential of

the Hotchkiss water system as little, if any, technology or equipment existed

in 1976 to capture the energy generating potential of the Hotchkiss raw water

flow line.

In the last five years great strides have been made in technology and

equipment to provide for small turbines and generators to work off a minimal

of 200 feet of head differential in a water flow line carrying only 450 GPM.

In addition to addres~ing the needs of the deteriorating treated water flow

line this supplement will address potential generating of approximately

28 Kw by use of the energy contained in the raw water flow line.

-/1/- Water Supply Master Plan Report as prepared in 1976

ii
