<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />periodically sample and test the water supplied to its customers. <br />The Town has legal rights to 5.5 cfs of water from the Fraser River <br />which has an average discharge for its 28 years of record of 195 cfs. The <br />water of the Fraser River can generally be termed as very good, except that <br />during periods of melt water run-off, the water becomes very colored and turbid. <br />The water can be considered soft with a slight fluoride content and a high iron <br />content. While the River is not presently considered infested with the <br />organism Giardia 1amblia by the Colorado Department of Health, the possibility <br />that it will become so infested, exists. The Colorado River at Hot Sulphur <br />Springs is considered infested with this organism by the Health Department. <br />, ' <br /> <br />The present water system consists of an infiltration gallery in the Colorado <br />River; raw water pumps, which lift the water from the River to the treatment <br />facilities at the Municipal Building; treatment facilities, which consist of <br />the addition of chemicals, pressure filtration and chlorination; a water <br />distribution system, consisting of mail1s ranging in size from 2-1/2" to 12"; <br />and a 235,000 gallon ground water storage tank. <br />The intake facilities have a capacity of 3.5 cfs. The pumping and treatment <br />facilities have a capacity of 1.5 cfs. The community presently uses the water <br />at the rate of 0.4 cfs on the average day and 0.8 cfs on the maximum day. In <br />the year 2000, the average and maximum rates are anticipated to be 0.8 cfs and <br />1.6 cfs, respectively. <br />The treatment facilities, while generally doing a satisfactory job, does <br />experience problems during the melt water run-off period. The operation is <br />somewhat complicated in the way that the chemicals are presently being added <br />to the treatment system. As a result, periodically color, turbidity and some <br />taste and odors are associated with the supply water. <br /> <br />1-2 <br />
