Of particular concern was the water
treatment facilities but a brief overview was to be made of the entire system--
supply, treatment, distribution, and storage. The purpose of the report was
to evaluate the facilities, develop alternative methods for the expansion and/or
modification of the facilities, if necessary, and identify that alternative
most feasible.
The population trends for the Town were developed using U. S. Census Bureau
data and that information available from the Town Clerk. Based on this
information, it was estimated that the present water system is serving approxi-
mately 975 people through 416 taps. Projected to the year 2000, it was estimated
that 1900 people would be served through approximately 800 taps.
Water is presently being consumed at the rate of 275 gallons per person per
day. This high water consumption includes that water furnished to the East Grand
Schools which have an enrollment of 1200 students; water needed for backwashing
of the treatment facilities filters; irrigation of the Parks and School property;
and the commercial needs of 77 motel units, 6 restaurants, 9 auto service stations,
2 laundries, theatre, and numerous other stores and shops. Despite the fact that
this is a high usage rate per capita, it was used in projecting the future needs
of the water system.
The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 requires that the Town provide a water
which meets specific standards. If the Town fails to meet those standards, they
must notify the consumers and immediately take corrective action. To verify the
fact that these standards are being met, the law requires the Town of Granby to

1-1
