<br />~ <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />SECT! ON II <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />SITE <br />Basalt Is an Incorporated Town In Eagle County, Colorado. The Town <br />site Is located at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Frylngpan <br />Rivers. Basalt Is approximately 17 miles northwest of Aspen, Colorado, <br />and 24 miles southeast of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Highway 82 <br />passes through the southwestern part of the Town. The area within <br />the present Town boundaries Is 235 acres which Includes land In the <br />geological floodplains of the Roaring Fork and Frylngpan Rivers, and <br />also land on several river terrace levels above the floodplain. With- <br /> <br /> <br />in the present corporate limits the terrain varies from level near the <br /> <br /> <br />rivers to steep slopes on the hillsides. Highway 82 provides excellent <br /> <br /> <br />all-weather access to the Town of Basalt. Drawing #1 Illustrates the <br /> <br /> <br />Basa I t loca Ie. <br /> <br />< <br /> <br />CLI MATE <br />The climate In the Basalt area Is similar to that of other mountainous <br />areas In the Colorado Rockies, being continental In character, and <br />subject to sudden and extreme temperature changes. The elevation of <br /> <br /> <br />Basalt Is 6624 feet above mean sea level. A weather station was operated <br /> <br />In Basalt from 1966 through 1971. Records from this station are given <br /> <br />in Table II-A. <br /> <br />< <br />
