V-2

.

permit the installation of valves for accurate control and metering of
flows. Furthermore, the existing gradients establish unfavorable

hydraulic characteristics in the lines. These 1 ines should be re-

placed, rerouted. and buried with four feet of cover minimum.

TREATMENT FACiliTIES
The treatment facilities include a settling basin and chlorinator.
The settling basin is a covered semi-buried concrete structure.

,

The structure has two inlets, one for each of the 8-inch raw water

lines and one outlet for an 8-inch treated water line. There is no

drain, bypass or shutoff valve for the inlets or outlet. The basin

detention time is approximately 10 minutes and this is not considered

sufficient for adequate settlement to take place; and therefore, the

structure is actually only serving as a collection basin.

.

Due to the hydraulics of the structure, it is highly unlikely that any

settling takes place. In any event, it is impossible to monitor,

control, bypass or in any way service this structure. However, with

improvement of the spring boxes to include sediment catchment and

new water lines, the need for this sedimentation structure would be

reduced considerably.

l.

-----~~-

.
